Make Your Own Organic Beauty Products and Create Your Own Organic Perfume

This course will bring you a better understanding of the chemicals used in beauty products and perfumes and how you can harness the power of plants to create your own organic natural perfume and beauty products including scrubs, creams, balms, face and body oils and much more.

You will use only the highest quality organic or wild crafted materials throughout. Friday will be spent discovering a range of different essential oils and their use in perfumery. On Saturday and Sunday you’ll learn to use essential oils in a different way as you make your own natural beauty products. Monday is a return to the art of perfume making, as you create your own personalised scent. Then take home the skills and recipes, so you can recreate your products as a permanent reminder of a unique time spent in an idyllic location in south west France.

The venue is L’Alabrena, a one-time farmhouse that has been lovingly restored and fitted out to provide teaching rooms, en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant, riverside terraces and a swimming pool.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Thursday

Early arrivals are welcome but check-in cannot be guaranteed until after 2pm.

Spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool or explore the area; the beautiful village of Lunas, on the river Gravezon, is a 45 minute walk. On the riverbank in the centre of the village is a château built in the mid-17th century.

Day 2 - Friday

After breakfast, you’ll head to the lab for your theory lesson where you’ll start to become familiar with essential oils and learn about their properties and notes.

Depending on the strength of the sun, teaching takes place either in the classroom or on the terrace, from 9.30am until 5.00pm each day, with a break for a light lunch.

The days are spent learning how to formulate and develop your own personal products. You will have time to refine your blends and so create something that will truly be ‘yours’, benefiting your skin and body. This will also give you the skills to reproduce your products when you return home.

Day 5 - Monday

You will spend the day in the lab developing, refining and balancing the personal scent you started on Friday. You will have time to create something that will truly be ‘yours’.

Day 6 - Tuesday

After breakfast, guests are asked to checkout of their rooms by 11am. If the programme of courses allows, it may occasionally be possible for guests to extend their stay and explore the Herault region more closely.

Cost: £850

Testimonials

"We'd like to thank you for the wonderful time. The mood was really nice, the course provided a foundation for the future and the place was just one of the most beautiful we have ever been to. We'd especially like to thank you for kindly caring for us. We were delighted to meet and get to know you as one who values nature, people, spirituality and was ready to open her heart to us."

A and A, Ireland and Hungary

"Outside the air was alive with birdsong, the chirruping of cicadas and buzzing bees, while inside, it was all silent concentration. After the face cream, we made a toner... On the Sunday we made our own perfume and body oil... My future, I thought, mixing my scent... was not just looking bright. My future was geranium and orange."

Lucy Gillmore, The Guardian, Saturday 27 June 2009
