Make Your Own Organic Beauty Products, Create Your Own Organic Perfume & Press Your Own Organic hand-made Soap

This unique course gives you an opportunity to indulge your passion for all things natural. You will learn all about the power of plants and create your own organic perfume, natural soaps and organic beauty products including scrubs, creams, balms, face and body oils and much more.

You will use only the highest quality organic or wild crafted materials throughout. On Friday you will learn the methodology of organic cold process soap making, together with the safety precautions. You will also consider different plant additives and their active ingredients, then take home the skills and recipes, so you can recreate your own organic products.

On Saturday and Sunday you’ll learn to use organic essential oils in a different way as you make your own natural organic beauty products. You will learn to create a selection of organic beauty products such as facial scrubs, lip balms, balms or creams, massage oils and toners tailored to suit your own skin type – your own ‘signature’ range. Then take home the skills and recipes, so you can recreate your own organic products as a permanent reminder of a unique time spent in our idyllic location in south-west France.

On Monday, you turn to the art of organic perfume making. You will explore the various ingredients used in perfumes and understand how fragrance affects mood and wellbeing. You will create your own organic perfume using the traditional approach of a blend of light, fleeting top notes, subtle, lingering middle notes and a heavy, lasting base note and take your personalised organic perfume home with you.

The venue is L’Alabrena, a one-time farmhouse that has been lovingly restored and fitted out to provide teaching rooms, en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant, riverside terraces and a swimming pool.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Thursday

Early arrivals are welcome but check-in cannot be guaranteed until after 2pm.

Spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool or explore the area; the beautiful village of Lunas, on the river Gravezon, is a 45 minute walk. On the riverbank in the centre of the village is a château built in the mid-17th century.

Day 2 - Friday

Depending on the strength of the sun, teaching takes place either indoors in the classroom or on the terrace, from 9.30am until 5pm each day with a break for a light lunch.

Enjoy breakfast then head down to the lab to start to learn all about cold process organic soap making.

Once your organic soap has been made, it will need a few days to set before being ready to use.

Day 3 & 4 - Saturday & Sunday

Two days are spent learning how to formulate and develop your own personal organic beauty products. You will have time to refine your blends and so create something that will truly be 'yours', benefiting your skin and body. This will also give you the skills to recreate your own organic products when you return home.

Day 5 - Monday

You return to the lab to continue to work on your organic perfume, spending the day developing your formulation then refining and balancing your own personal scent. You will have time to create something that will truly be 'yours'.

Day 6 - Tuesday

After breakfast, guests are asked to checkout of their rooms by 11am. If the programme of courses allows, it may occasionally be possible for guests to extend their stay and explore the Herault region at leisure.

Cost: £850

Testimonials

"I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for a wonderful few days! The course far exceeded my expectations in so many ways. We learnt how to make fabulous soaps, creams, lotions, massage bars, balms and more... so much in 3 days! The course notes are very thorough and have allowed me to come home and make the products myself without any problems.

I have to say, this course was more like a holiday! Great accommodation, great setting and all of the food we had was fresh, tasty and plentiful and dining at the Lunas Chateau was a really unexpected treat! In addition to the learning experience the people were also very lovely both attending the course and the staff there to help – they just couldn't do enough for us. I cannot recommend this course enough – by far the best course I have attended! Tortue Rouge is passionate about natural/organic products and the power of plants – and I now understand why. I shall certainly be looking out for future courses to attend at Tortue Rouge."

TW, Massage Therapist, UK

"...we learn how to make lip and hand balms, massage bars and oil. It is the first time I have given much thought to the products I use on my skin and the chemicals that are pumped in to them, yet it so simple to make natural alternatives at home."
